Start With the Whole Setting
A change in leaf appearance, sparse growth, or an unusual area of bark can raise questions about tree stress. These observations are useful starting points, but they do not establish a cause. Look at the wider setting and remember when the change first appeared.
Note whether the concern affects a small part of the canopy or the whole tree. Include recent construction, altered planting, or changes in drainage in your description. A short timeline helps connect visible symptoms with what has been happening around the property.
What to Observe
- Changes in leaves, buds, bark, roots, or branch structure.
- New leaning, cracking, hanging limbs, or movement around the root area.
- Construction, soil compaction, drainage changes, or recent storm exposure.
- Clearance needs around the home, driveway, paths, and utility areas.
